Why Must Your Jewellery be GIA Certified?

Most often when we purchase from a jeweller, we consider the 4C's of a diamond to identify its quality, and it consists of: colour, cut, clarity and carat weight.  The 4C's was a standard created by GIA, who evaluated each C and its characterized terminology used to define them.

What is GIA?

GIA stands for Gemological Institute of America, an autonomous, non-profit organization that is well known for being the top authority in the world for grading diamonds. Since GIA is a third-party organization that is independent from the retail world, they are authorized to grade diamonds without seller bias. With the help of expert gemologists, the 4 C characteristics are more uniformly graded in a system that is respected globally.

GIA does not mine, buy, sell or trade diamonds. The significance of a diamond is not included and is never included in the price or evaluation of a diamond. It operates independently of these business concerns and ensures that diamond quality and value judgements are completely objective and impartial.

How can you benefit from purchasing a GIA certified diamond?

In addition to the internationally recognized 4C rating, the GIA report confirms the originality or naturalness of the diamond and shows whether the diamond has been synthetically engineered to enhance properties such as colour and clarity. Before you buy a diamond, get a report from your jeweller so you know exactly what you're buying. Thus, only invest in jewels that have GIA certified diamonds.

And why must you only invest in GIA certified Diamonds?

These diamonds undergo a series of tests to provide specific results. For example, they endure a 10X magnification to isolate diamond defects that cannot be witnessed through the naked eye. It is important to consider the colour and shape of the part as well as the location and number of parts within the diamond. It's tedious work, but it helps distinguish one level of elegance from another. With the help of GIA, rocks are graded to determine their heat level.

All of these above factors and more work together to calculate the best possible value. To ensure the most accurate results, each diamond is evaluated by many qualified gemologists. This is very important because there is no room for error in the evaluation.
